Nethack
Yeah, I’m a complete nethack addict; I’ve been playing off-and-on for over half my life, and I ain’t getting any younger. It took me a full 10 years after picking up the game to get my first ascension, but I’m hopeful I’ll be getting them more frequently as I keep working on improving. This page is here merely for my own vanity, to document my little achievements in the game. ;)
Ascensions
Note: Unfortunately, nethack.alt.org had a catastrophic disk failure. Saved games, amongst other data, were lost. Currently, it looks like the TTY captures, as well as end-of-game game stats, are not available, so the following links don’t work. I’m not very hopeful that they’ll be recovered, but I’m leaving the links in for memory’s sake.

Devnull Tournament
Every year, for the entire month of November, devnull holds a Nethack tournament. I have won a couple trophies in this tournament — the trophy descriptions are hosted on the devnull site, if you’re curious what they mean.

Awesome, a fellow NetHack player! We are a rare breed, so I am glad whenever I run across another one serendipitously. Like you, it took awhile for me to get my first Ascension (several months, after killing off hundreds of characters), but thankfully, nowhere close to a decade. Since then I’ve racked up another seven or eight Ascensions, each with a different class. The first one is definitely the hardest.
Do you play on nethack.alt.org? When I am in a Nethacking mood, that’s generally where I do play, simply because I can keep on playing the same character from anywhere.

Yeah, these days I’ll use NAO when I’m in the mood, though I first learned about it only last year. My nethacking mood comes and goes, though; I’m on a downswing right now. Well, that and I changed my NAO password and forgot to record it in my keyring, so I need to go bug the admin to reset it for me; I haven’t gotten around to that yet. However, if/when I do manage to get back on, my handle will be “Quandary”. :)
P.S. the TTYRec files/ascension screen above are all NAO.
